Black Sheep | UNIF x Urban Outfitters

I am obsessed with this oversized faux-shearling moto jacket by UNIF! I love the relaxed fit because it is the perfect layering piece to stay warm AND stay fly in. The stark contrast between the black detail and soft cream faux-shearling highlights the motorcycle cut of the jacket perfectly. I paired it with an all-black look and my go-to chunky knit scarf to keep with the cream theme.

In an outfit like this that is short of vibrancy by way of colour, it’s fun to play around with texture. The pony hair handbag, crushed velvet leggings, angora cap, and faux shearling jacket make what could be an inherently yawn worthy colour combo, fun and interesting!

Broke&Living Pop-Up Shop

Our friends at Broke&Living held a charitable toque-centric pop-up shop last week at the Dundas West location of Sole Survivor Shoe Repair. For every Toque sold, one was donated to Youth Without Shelter, a Toronto based charity for the benefit of homeless youth in distress.
A charming event complete with a DJ and the chicest balloons ever, brought out friends and fans alike to support the cause in wake of an oncoming snow storm. Not to worry, the toques being donated will not boast the wooden “broke” plaque pictured below. Plain black toques will be donated to the respective charitable organization.
Check out brokeandliving.com and fall in love with their current collection of vinyl, wool, and brocade apparel. Visit www.yws.on.ca to find out what you can do to help homeless youth in Toronto.

VESPER

Bloomin’ Brilliant is a hand crafted jewellery line by Toronto based designer Rhea Jacinto. She specializes in brass and combines raw crystals, fur, natural stones, and geometric silhouettes to achieve her unique aesthetic. Her vintage inspired pieces have a modern twist which makes them special and exciting. You know how I love a good juxtaposition! That is exactly what you get with this line. The Eva necklace for example, combines soft, draped silhouettes and geometric details in a way that really works.
I’m wearing the Vesper necklace which features raw rose tone quartz, cascading onyx talons, and geometric brass chain link. This piece is step away from the big 90s inspired gold chains you usually see me in, and has rekindled my love affair with raw crystal!

#OOTD Thanksgiving 2014

SWEATPANTS!

Who am I!? I don’t think I’ve owned a pair of sweatpants since I was forced to purchase a gym uniform for P.E. class in grade 10. These BDG joggers caught my eye while browsing the Urban Outfitters sale section last week. They are actually meant to be men’s drop crotch joggers, but as soon as I had them in my hands I knew they’d make the perfect women’s high waist harem jogger! They feature a drawstring waist, tapered leg and contrasting pockets/ankle cuffs. The little details helped me put the nightmare memory of my 10th grade gym uniform in the past. I thought thanksgiving was the perfect occasion to break them in since heaven knows we’re all in need of food baby room this time of year!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving with their family, friends and loved ones! Additionally, I hope you all recklessly consumed as much carbs and dairy as I did today. Zero regrets!
Fun Fact: My dog Minnie is a total fashionista and loves getting dressed up. She was beyond stoked when she saw me pull out her favourite Minnie Mouse dress. Like mother like daughter! 😉

Monochrome Fun

I scooped this white neoprene dress up at Mendocino a couple months back for under $30 if I’m not mistaken, which I think is a pretty sweet deal. This little number totally hits all the marks. As if it being neoprene didn’t cause it to hold its structure enough, there are not one but TWO layers of tulle in the skirt propping it up to the highest of cupcake dress standards. #OBSESSED
I tossed on my trusty biker jacket, a big floppy black hat, a dark lip and black platforms in an ambitious attempt at rocking an all white tulle underlay dress without causing anticipation of an orchestral rendition of Bridal Chorus. Goal achieved? I hope so!

TSOQ Launch Party

Two weeks ago Sergio and I got to join the lovely ladies at The Store On Queen to celebrate the launch of the shop’s new home at 662 Queen St. West! There is nothing more chic than badass girls creating their own success and doing it on their own terms. We were lucky enough to get an early look at the new store and I promise, it does not disappoint!

The décor in the new shop is a harmonious blend between clean and pristine, and rustic antique. The exposed brick and antique furniture paired with the fun, vibrant and trendy product that TSOQ is famed for totally feeds my craving for a good juxtaposition. A D.I.Y chandelier of dangling Barbie dolls hung from the ceiling is definitely the cherry on top!

The girls definitely know how to throw a great party! It was fabulous to see some new faces and a total ball to see some familiar ones as well. DJs Lissa Monet, Dustin P, and Fizza Jasmine set the perfect musical vibe for the evening. Complimentary wine was provided by Vines Play, a very cool Toronto based wine-centric event marketing firm that caters to “a new generation of wine drinkers.” AMEN to that!

Check out Angela and Valentina at 662 Queen St. West, or shop TSOQ online at  www.thestoreonqueen.com

Black On Black On Black

I’m not in mourning, I swear! In my books, it is 110% acceptable to be decked out in head to toe black in the middle of June. It’s classic, it’s chic, and it screams “Homegirl ain’t playin!” without actually screaming at all. A monochromatic look shouldn’t limit your personal style or stop you from incorporating your personality into your look. I see it as an opportunity to play with texture and layering to make things fun!

The best way to amp up a black look is to load up on textures. The key to a serious black-on-black look, is to create dimension rather than have your individual pieces disappear against each other. In this look I’ve paired mesh, leather, suede and jersey to create a dimensional black look that has character!

STYLE PROFILE: Marc Bueno of TheBuenoFashionisto.com

Marc Bueno is a Hamilton, Ontario based fashion blogger and designer. His innovative take on menswear and current trends have made TheBuenoFashionisto.com one of the fastest growing in the Canadian blogosphere. Check out my Q&A with Marc about his blog, personal style, and fashion forecast for this spring!

How did you start blogging and what was your motivation?
I started blogging because I wanted to share my own personal taste in fashion and inspire people. What motivates me to keep blogging is by being involved. What I mean by that is meeting people, travelling around the world and sharing my stories.

How would you describe your personal style?
My style is very versatile and unpredictable. I have noticed my style keeps changing dramatically. I love different styles of fashion but I grew up listening to rock music so I try to express that through my clothing. I like to experiment with different styles of fashion and add my personal style to that. I believe that fashion is all about your personal style and experimenting and trying things out.
A couple closet must-haves for SS14?
I feel like anything Floral Prints and Pastel colors this Spring/Summer.

Who are some of your favourite designers or places to shop at the moment?
There are so many amazing designers out there that I really love! The top two i am loving right now are Alexander Wang and Ann Demeulemeester.
The best places to shop are your local vintage stores. I am a huge vintage/thrift shopper and I love finding great vintage pieces. Other than vintage stores, i love shopping at Zara and Topman!

What are some of your personal favourite blogs to read?
I have been following Dustin Hanke from shiggersonstreet.com for a while now. I love his style. Another great Men’s Style blog is Denny Balmaceda from lookrichshopcheap.blogspot.ca who is one of my inspirations, to be honest.

Any projects you are currently working on that you’d like us to know about?
I launched my shop a year ago, I have been making these classic and avant-garde bow ties for men and women. Everything in my shop is handmade. I am currently working on new designs so stay tuned!
